Developer Oak Holdings has selected Tropus as project manager and cost consultant on a £250m leisure scheme in South Yorkshire.

Tropus will manage the Yorkshire Entertainment Spectacular (YES) project, which is located on the 121 ha site of a former coal mine near Rotherham.

The scheme includes 116,000 m2 of commercial space, including facilities for sports, conferences, and live events, as well as a hotel, spa, bars, restaurants and retail space.

Oak Holdings is expected to submit a planning application for the scheme in January 2005. It is working with Rotherham council, which owns the site, and regional development agency Yorkshire Forward to progress the scheme.

Oak Holdings has signed provisional agreements with three prospective tenants: live entertainment operator Clear Channel Entertainment, golf centre company Baydrive Group and extreme sports operator Venture Xtreme.

The YES development will be linked to the 405 ha Rother Valley Country Park.
