BBC announces Salford as the preferred site for its proposed move to North West
The BBC has announced Salford as the preferred site for its proposed move to the North West.
The BBC's Board of Governors authorised the BBC North Project Team to view Salford as the leading bidder at a meeting on Wednesday.
The BBC team will speak exclusively with Salford MediaCity:UK, and are expected to confirm them as the preferred bidder. The Board also said that Salford could lose its position if certain outstanding issues are not resolved within the limited period of exclusivity.
The BBC said the final decision will be based on whether the move ‘represents value for money for licence fee payers', and affordability of the project.
The Governors had considered two short-listed sites, one in Manchester and the other at Salford.
The final decision will be made when the licence fee settlement is known.
