This 22-storey tower is ushering in a new wave of even more architecturally adventurous buildings in Dubai.

Designed by New York architect Reiser+Umemoto and due for completion next spring, it features an external loadbearing concrete shell that also provides solar shading. The spirit of cutting-edge design will continue at the Cityscape conference in the emirate, which starts on Sunday. It is expected that one of the most striking proposals will be a set of three towers for the 2000ha Jumeirah Gardens regeneration. This would steal the title of world’s tallest building from the Burj Dubai.
