The Republic of Iraq has become the 75th member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the global organisation that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.

Iraq joins as Full Member, which enables it to participate in all IEC standardisation activities, including the right to vote on technical and management matters.

Membership also gives access to the world's electrotechnical standards in fields as diverse as the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity through to industrial automation, healthcare, transport, and multimedia.

Iraq has an estimated electricity production of 33.53 billion kWh.
