Construction product sales have shown their best quarter in more than two years, according to the Ernst and Young and Construction Products Association activity barometer.

The first quarter of 2007 saw a score of 74. This is well above the 50 no change mark and the highest level since the survey started in 2005.

Demand has risen following the introduction of Part L of the Building Regs. Government investment to upgrade social housing has also had an impact.

Industry growth is expected to gather momentum during the course of 2007, benefiting from stronger private sector and a modest pick-up in government funded work.
