Changes to the way Building Regulations are amended are set to be introduced under a modernisation of the Building Control system.
The document, The Future for Building Control, sets out a series of options on how reform should proceed. These include:
- Providing greater enforcement powers for local authorities to tackle persistent offenders
- Providing customer guidance to help with specific building work or types of problems
- Moving away from a piecemeal approach to reviewing Building Regulations to a fixed-term review cycle with planned pauses and clear indication of future changes
- Assessing the options to ensure building control bodies are properly resourced
