The Fire and Security Association (FSA) has announced that it has joined forces with Select, in an agreement involving the FSA, Select and the ECA.

Select is Scotland’s trade association for the electrical, electronics and communications systems industry. Its involvement means that membership of the FSA will rise to more than 200 firms – around 100 security specialists and over 100 fire specialists – making the FSA the largest UK industry group of electronic fire and security installers and providing the FSA with UK wide coverage.

Steve Kimber, chairman of the FSA said: “We see this is an extremely positive development for the associations. Fire and security installers face an increasingly challenging business environment, characterised by rapid technical change and greater regulation. Our members are part of the wider electrotechnical industry and we believe that working together with Select will help to ensure that the whole industry is well equipped to meet the challenges ahead.”

This co-operative venture will allow Select members operating in the area of fire and security to demonstrate their expertise and commitment to standards and to reap the business benefits.

Newell McGuiness, managing director of Select commented: “Our partnership with the FSA is very good news for our members who will gain specialist recognition for their capabilities in the fire and security sector. We look forward to working with our colleagues south of the border to benefit our members and the industry as a whole.”

The partnership will also greatly assist the FSA in addressing one of its principal objectives, the development of a suitable national system of qualifications and training for individuals working in the fire and security systems industry.
