FES installs MI fire-rated cable technology at Edinburgh’s St Giles’ Cathedral

Stirling-based electrical contractor FES has fitted Pyrotenax mineral-insulated (Pyro MI) cables at Edinburgh’s historic St Giles’ Cathedral as part of a full programme of interior works, which were undertaken with the help of a heritage lottery grant.

The extensive refurbishment included installing interior lighting, bespoke chandeliers and a fire detection system.

Both light and heavy-duty MI cables were supplied by Ross Electrical in a sandstone hue, sympathetic to the fabric of the grade A-listed building, certain parts of which date back to at least the 12th century.

In addition to its superior fire performance, MI cabling is suitable for applications in large historic buildings as it is also rodent-resistant and long-lasting, providing decades of maintenance-free service.
