The Carbon Trust has committed £27 million to its Energy Efficiency Loans scheme to help SMEs reduce carbon emissions and cut costs.

The move comes in the wake of research by the trust which found lack of time and expertise is preventing smaller construction firms from claiming their share of £3 billion of achievable business energy savings.

The loans scheme is designed to help businesses replace or upgrade equipment with more energy-efficient versions. SMEs in England and Scotland and all businesses in Wales can borrow from £5000 to £100,000. Those in Northern Ireland may be eligible for loans of up to £400,000. Seewww.carbontrust.co.uk/loans.
