Cambridge-based Munro Building Services has marked its 55th anniversary with an acquisition to bolster its profile in the south east.

Munro has completed the purchase of Mid Essex Electrical Engineers, a long-established Chelmsford-based firm with a substantial client list across the Home Counties and London.

Past projects have included work at St Paul’s Cathedral, along with a number of regional schools and hospitals.

The buy-out also includes Mid Essex Systems, which sells and installs a wide range of alarm and access products.

The Chelmsford company will trade as Mid Essex Mechanical and Electrical Services, under the Munro banner.

Munro managing director Steve Barry said: “Mid Essex has long excelled in electrical services, but the addition of Munro’s mechanical expertise will make it a formidable operation and open up new markets in the south of England.

“With John Gray, Munro’s commercial director, overseeing the development and integration, the new company will dovetail perfectly into the group.”

Munro Building Services’ turnover has grown to £20m, and it is developing a reputation for high-tech installations using energy-efficient systems.

Munro has installed much of the foundation services work at the Cambridge Science Park, and current projects include several Cambridge colleges and Addenbrookes Hospital.
