Shortlisted for Public Building Project of the Year: Christie Hospital combines cutting-edge healthcare with cutting edge design

Christie Hospital, Manchester submitted by Interserve

Sleekly clad in shimmering copper panels and with a facade that curves and dances like overlapping fabric sheets caught in the wind, Christie hospital’s new patient treatment centre marks a sensuously choreographed addition to an otherwise unremarkable hospital campus. With its metallic sheen, horizontal lines and strip windows carved into its facade like elongated portholes punched into a ship’s hull, it also possess a seductively ornamental art deco chic that instantly distinguishes it from more conventional hospital design. Internally, cutting-edge clinical accommodation, flexible consultation areas and integrated patient amenities also provide vastly improved facilities for patients and staff. Inside and out, it is an innovative contribution healthcare design.
