A major new gallery for displaying works on paper has opened at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.

The new gallery has been designed by Foster and Partners, architects on the original scheme, and acts as a link between the display areas of the original 1978 building and the Crescent Wing, which was added in 1991. Leading off the gallery are new educational facilities, a new shop and better access for visitors with disabilities. Kier Eastern was main contractor on the project, which included major enhancements to the main centre. Among the services upgrades are lighting, fire alarms, security cameras and climate and humidity controls linked to radio sensors. M&E consultant on the project was Buro Happold, mechanical contractor was Kershaw Mechanical Services and electrical contractor was T Clarke.
