Two proposed women's refuges are among schemes facing a crippling shortfall in funding from the £1.4bn Supporting People programme.
The projects, run by East Thames Housing Group and Stonham Housing Association, have the money to be built but have not been guaranteed Supporting People funds to run them.

The ODPM will make its final funding announcement later this month. East Thames is still waiting to hear whether it has sufficient Supporting People money to cover day-to-day costs.

The ODPM had said that schemes that already have funding to build property would be guaranteed Supporting People money, but this has not happened for some.

The associations' chief executives, June Barnes and Clare Tickell, quizzed junior housing minister Yvette Cooper about the funding gap at the launch of a London Housing Federation report highlighting the housing shortages faced by women.

Cooper responded: "I assume we are talking about pipeline funding. The issue is being looked at but I will take up the issue of refuges that have Housing Corporation funding to ensure it is properly looked at."
