How nice of Mr Roger Dervish to write in about my recent letter on John Prescott.

I am a little confused however as to why he was so appalled by the ‘foul language’ that I wrote. As readers will know from my regular letters, I do not resort to poor English – neither indeed would this magazine print it. I only ever report on the truth as I see it, and if that promotes discussion and comment – that’s what it’s supposed to do!

What an interesting name – Dervish. No doubt derived from The Whirling Dervishes of the 13th century Ottoman Empire. The Dervish describes a Sufi who stands at the door of enlightenment. The word Sufi comes from the Arabic word Sûf, meaning wool. The correct word for Sufis is also tassawwuf, which translates as ‘woolen’. How appropriate some surnames are…

Not surprising then that Mr Dervish describes himself as an academic – presumably an educator working at a college or university. Ah yes lads, we know these: one of the Training With Attitude Taskmasters, or more colloquially known in the trade as TWATS.

Presumably then, Mr Dervish, you support Mr Prescott and his now defunct office? How you come to conclude that the industry is in disrepair because of my letter escapes my agricultural intelligence. Surely the fact that Mr P has been publicly shamed and removed from office shows just how much respect the public and his associates had for him?

If by writing the truth and saying the things that others only think or talk about in private is a ‘disgrace to my profession’ then long may I continue to pour shame upon it!
