Strataform has successfully helped prevent costly disruption to the Travel Midland Metro network by introducing a range of specially designed physical security measures.

Attacks by vandals have caused major problems for the West Midlands system, with the most serious incident resulting in severe disruption for almost a week after line-side equipment, which feeds energy into the system at Priestfield, was set fire to.

Those responsible for the criminal activity first smashed lighting to avoid detection by CCTV and passers-by, before destroying the power and communication cables, which took engineers working around the clock nearly seven days to repair.

The offenders were lucky not to have been electrocuted by the equipment's 750 volts.

But now, thanks to Strataform, the cable inspection chamber which the vandals gained access to with relative ease is protected by a high security access cover, which is significantly stronger than the previous model and designed to withstand all manner of physical attacks.

Strataform has also designed and installed lighting post cable protectors and specially glazed covers for the overhead lights at Priestfield, so that they cannot be broken or set fire to.
