The new All-Wales Low Carbon Research Institute plans to make the country an international showcase for sustainable energy use.

Some £5.1 million in funding from the Welsh Assembly will enable the Institute to coordinate research on clean energy technologies and how they can be put into practice.

It will focus on four main areas: low carbon energy generation, storage and distribution; energy demand reduction; partnerships with industry, research organisations and government; and the Energy Graduate School.
