Thanks, Steve Hennessy (Letters BSj 3/08), for the witty retort upholding the honour of Australian engineers.

I have no doubt the best Aus BSEs are at least as good as the best Brit BSEs.

The point was, and is, that professionals all over the world need to show carbon leadership and to “walk the talk” of carbon reduction. We must quit the dirty habit of over-frequent long-haul flying. A return trip between the UK and Australia creates more CO2 equivalent than the average person’s entire emissions for a year. Top BSEs, in Sydney or Sydenham, need to stay grounded if they want to lead: it is low-flying leaders we need. Local is the new global.
