A 'smart' PIR camera designed to mimic a PIR alarm sensor has been launched under the Vista brand by leading CCTV specialist Norbain. The Vista SmartPIR combines a 1/4" CCD 480 TV lines colour covert camera with a passive infrared sensor and user-defined motion detection capabilities, and is suitable for permanent, temporary or emergency CCTV solutions.
The Vista SmartPIR has evolved from the standard PIR covert camera by enabling the end user to record alarmed images that are saved in JPEG format onto an internal, removable 32 Mb or 64 Mb flash memory card. As a result, these cameras can function as a stand-alone CCTV system, recording images that may be played back at a later time on standard CCTV monitors.
Additionally, the SmartPIR offers both a built-in PIR sensor and motion detector which can operate on an 'and/or' basis. This means that the end user can deploy either the PIR or the motion detector to trigger a recording event. If you're concerned about false alarms, though, then PIR and motion detector may be used together (such that they must both be activated before the alarm will trigger).
The SmartPIR offers further features of interest to the end user. An activation delay will allow the user to leave the premises before recording begins, while pre-alarm (and post-alarm) images may be captured.
Ideal applications for the Vista units will include offices, banks and building societies, bars, pubs and clubs, security offices and stockrooms.

An Asset by day and by night
Designed for quality-critical, round-the-clock CCTV surveillance operations, the SCC-B2007 and SCC-B2307 cameras designed by Samsung Electronics – and made available to end users through Asset Security – feature the Sony Ex-View chip (which actually provides far superior infrared response at higher wavelengths, and helps the units in delivering an improved day/night performance).
The 1/3" 480 TV line cameras are capable of operating in highly challenging light conditions.

Super LoLux JVC domes
JVC has launched the TK-C205E dome camera, at the same time stating this is the only CCTV camera of its kind to offer 535 TV lines of horizontal resolution images for a host of end user applications.
The domes offer a compact body design, their 1/4" CCDs producing crisp, clear images at 440,000 effective pixels.
A Super LoLux facility enables high quality images to be captured in light levels down to as low as 0.9 lux sensitivity at F1.2 and 2.4 lux (when fitted with a smoked cover).

When three does go into one...
Baxall has launched the MDR Digital system, which integrates a coaxial telemetry matrix, digital video recorder and multiplexer within one bespoke unit for end users
CCTV specialist Baxall has devised a new digital CCTV recording system – designated the MDR Digital – which houses an embedded digital video recorder, multiplexer and telemetry matrix in a single unit.
On the matrix side, the MDR enables up to 16 cameras to be switched to any one of five monitors. The multiplexer element features Triplex functionality, allowing end users to watch live and recorded images on one split screen monitor while continuing to record both images and audio. These images are archived in the MDR's hard disk drives.
Finding specific events in and among the vast amounts of data end users are able to store is made easy thanks to a motion search facility. The disk analysis screen may be used for simple analysis of recorded data. Colour-coded bars indicate per camera information of events, alarms, activities and video loss, plus the option to zoom-in to selected areas. A synchronised alarm system affords the further benefit of being able to route an alarmed camera to designated spot monitors.
Users will also benefit from the front panel, which has been designed with the look and feel of a classic multiplexer, VCR and matrix combination. Meantime, the built-in jog/shuttle control facility enables variable speed forward, reverse, play and frame-by-frame searching.
For larger multi-site applications, anything up to 16 MDR units may be connected to give the user access to 256 cameras.

Cova feels the need for speed
A fourth generation model of its established Speed Gate range of perimeter protection gates – the CSG 10604 – has been launched by Cova Security Gates.
These 'trackless' gates don't need either a guide track or guide wheel to cause the leaf to fold. As the first part of the leaf rotates via the conventional actuator, motion is then transmitted to the second part using the leaf guidance system.
At a ratio of 2:1, the second part of the leaf moves at twice the radial speed of the first part. Thus with a 90 degree opening the first part of the bi-folding leaf will move through 90 degrees relative to the post (but the second part of the leaf will have moved through 180 degrees relative to the first part).
What are the advantages for end users? The gate structure doesn't need to be built taller than the tallest vehicle as there's no top operator box. Given that gate height can match the perimeter fence/wall heights, there's also no need for planning permission.

Access with Intelligence
Andover Controls has introduced an addition to its range of access control and building management systems designed for end users.
Unlike many access control products, Andover's Intelli-M includes an ID badge producing ability within its core software. There are no bolt-on software packages or expensive licenses to purchase, making it both easy and cost-effective to create badges for personnel and visitors.
Intelli-M – primarily designed for maintaining door security throughout a medium-sized site – is modular in construction and can be 'cascaded' to offer access for anything from one to 192 doors on a single domain/serial port.
In addition, a selection of controllers (which may be configured for either access control use or in/output control) can be deployed. Maximum flexibility is the key here.
According to Andover, Intelli-M's reliability means that, in the event of any loss in communication, the controllers will continue to operate without any depreciation in functionality.
