Sanyo has launched a digital video recorder which makes use of JPEG 2000 compression

The DSR-5016PA DVR developed by Sanyo boasts 16 camera inputs and a Tbyte of onboard storage. If required, the additional storage of video images can be achieved via optional VA-EXH external expansion hard drive units which offer the end user 2 Tbytes of extra capacity.

For evidential purposes, all recorded images may easily be transferred onto a DVD or CD by using the DVR’s integral writing software (although transfer to a compact flash or microdrive is also possible).

When in use, the system allows operators to set up three ‘Regions of Interest’ for each camera. These enhance picture quality for a particular area while lowering it for those of less importance – thus further reducing file sizes and increasing recording capacities.

Real-time recording at 100 frames per second is standard.
