Gareth Vaughan succeeds to HVCA presidency for 2008/09

Gareth Vaughan has been elected as the new president of the HVCA.

Vaughan succeeded to the presidency of the Association at its annual general meeting this month. During his speech at the meeting, Vaughan welcomed in the age of the engineer, urging members to take encouragement from the growing demand for low carbon technologies and renewable energies in today’s built environment, which is “contributing hugely to our status as highly qualified professionals, capable of original thinking and genuine innovation.”

Among his numerous past achievements, Vaughan was chairman of the HVCA North West region from 1994 to 1996. He has been a member of the HVCA council and the executive committee of the Association’s ductwork group since 1997.

Vaughan has been a director of Engineering Services SKILLcard since 2002.

Throughout his career, he has shown an impressive commitment to vocational education and, during his period as managing director of ductwork specialist E Poppleton & Son, has won a number of prestigious awards.

Having joined E Poppleton & Son as an installation assistant back in 1973, Vaughan worked his way up the training ladder and was promoted to supervisor in 1976 and to projects manager in 1981.

He was appointed managing director of the company, which is based in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, in 1989, and has held this post ever since.

Graham Manly of Gratte Brothers was also elected HVCA president elect at this year’s annual general meeting.

Retiring president John Miller, of J H Shouksmith & Sons, will serve during 2008/09 as immediate past president.
