Trend setter

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced a limited special edition of its best-selling Transporter van, offering customers extra equipment at an affordable price.

The Trendline is based on the Transporter T28 short wheelbase panel van and is available with a 1.9 litre, 102 PS or 2.5 litre 130 PS engine.

Above the standard van’s specification, the Trendline includes air conditioning, electric windows and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, internal central locking control, driver’s seat armrests, full bulkhead without window and Reflex silver metallic paint.

To add the full range of extras to the Transporter would cost £1500, yet the Trendline costs just £710 more than the T28.

Track ‘em down

A new vehicle tracking system by Premiere Electronics provides both GPRS and GSM interfaces, allowing users to monitor all their vehicles at once via a TCP/IP interface, or to call up any vehicle from a standard land line.

There are no daily charges, and you can own the tracker from day one. It works on a pay as you go basis, even allowing you to supply your own sim. The tracking software sits on your local PC, connecting to the free server. You can download the vehicle’s history at any time and generate reports showing what time, road, speed and distance travelled. The system allows you to find the fastest, shortest or cheapest routes easily, with a “nearest” button that finds the closest asset to a required point.
