URS, the engineering and environmental consultant, is the QS on a £400m, 15-year project to provide new and upgraded laboratory and office facilities for the Defence Science and Technological Laboratory.

Sir Robert McAlpine is the contractor, Building Design Partnership is the architect and Serco is the consortium’s leader.

The first phase of the project kicked off last month. It includes the design and build of new facilities at Porton Down and the refurbishment of others at Portsdown West. The plans for these sites range from laboratory set-up to travel management services for 1,500 staff who will migrate to new locations.
