Civil and cultural hubs

The ruins of Egremont castle in West Cumbria will be transformed into a cultural hub with a performance pavilion hosting concerts, plays and public events. Three practices from around the world have been shortlisted to design the removable pavilion. This is the entry from British firm Moxon with Built Engineers. The winner is expected to be announced early next month.

This civic hub in the centre of Blackpool will be used for markets, performances and dining, as well as outdoor working using a free wireless internet. Architect Leit-werk has drawn up the designs for the £3.5m scheme, which is meant to regenerate the St John’s Precinct area next to the winter gardens. Local residents participated in the decision making process by voting online.
