The east and south-east of Leeds have been ear-marked as a huge 1,700 hectare regeneration zone after housebuilder Bellway signed a joint venture with the city council to spend £1.2bn overhauling the area over the next 20 years.

The deal will eventually result in the construction of 5,000 homes as well as schools and neighbourhood centres.

Although the project was launched in March, Isis has already sold 30 of the 282 properties, making £4m. When it is completed in 2009 the 2.61-acre, former car park will have shops, restaurants and a 300-bed hotel.
