On the waterfront

  • The launch this month of Swansea’s £1bn plan to overhaul its city centre hit the ground running with the decision by Korean developer CoDA to build an £80m residential block as part of the £400m SA1 Swansea Waterfront site. The 406-home Harbour Square will consist of two low-rise towers up to nine storeys. Construction is set to take three years.
  • The Lowry and the Imperial War Museum North are set to be joined by mediacity:uk as the dominant buildings on Salford Quays in Greater Manchester. This at least is the hope of architect Wilkinson Eyre, developer Peel Holdings and Salford council for the 200-acre development that will be home to part of the BBC. The plans are for 7million ft2 of business, retail and residential space.
