Modus Corovest is giving Newport's retail centre a makeover with 390,000 ft2 of new and refurbished retail space, improved public spaces and 137 homes. Work on the scheme, designed by Leslie Jones Architects with EC Harris as project manager, is due to begin at the end of this year. The project, part of URC Newport Unlimited's central area masterplan, will also create a cultural left bank district, a commercial core, homes and green spaces.

Plymouth's first fully covered shopping centre is due to open for business in October. The mammoth 654,000 ft2 Drake Circus shopping centre is being developed by P&O Estates for Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund in association with Plymouth council. The centre comprises eight major stores, more than 48 shops, a department store, cafes and multi-storey car park. Design is by Chapman Taylor, and construction is by Bovis Lend Lease.
