… in two of the government’s newly declared growth points

The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) growth point concentrates the region’s housing delivery on the regeneration of Portsmouth, Southampton and adjoining areas. PUSH is expected to have 40,425 new homes by 2016. In Portsmouth, housing numbers are being boosted by a residential skyscraper that Berkeley Homes is developing at Gunwharf Quays. The 29-storey tower is designed by Scott Brownrigg and contains 143 apartments. Gunwharf Quays is a 22 acre waterfront regeneration scheme comprising retail, leisure, hotel and offices.

Just over 800 homes a year are being built in Reading and as a growth point it is targeted to deliver 7,000 more by 2016. Already in the making is this £250m mixed scheme at Chatham Place by Amec Developments with Reading council. The first phase has just over 300 apartments and a public car park. Overall, the scheme, which is being designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects, will provide more than a million ft² of living, leisure and office space. Also working on the project are structural engineer Buro Happold, planning consultant Broadway Malyan, cost consultant Faithful and Gould and highways designer Peter Brett Associates.
