Unity Housing Association has been released from Housing Corporation supervision.

The Leeds-based association was deemed to have resolved the governance problems that led it into supervision in October last year (HT 24 October 2003, page 13).

It has hired operations and regeneration directors to fill vacant positions and introduced operations and corporate services subcommittees to work alongside the board.

The corporation removed Unity from supervision on 3 August and announced the move on Monday.

Unity chief executive Ali Akbor said: “I am delighted and want to thank all concerned, including the board, the appointees and the staff.

“We want to ensure that we build on our work and continue to work with our key stakeholders to deliver high-quality affordable housing and related services that promote sustainable neighbourhoods, choice and the well-being of black and minority-ethnic communities.”
