Electrical jobs on the London Underground are being carried out by unqualified contractors, according to Union leaders

Unite-Amicus claims that general civil engineering firms are undertaking Underground work that should be reserved for qualified electrical contractors.

PPP operator Metronet went into administration last July. Although its station refurbishment programme has been on hold since last summer, work has continued on a smaller scale.

Unite-Amicus is concerned that a proportion of these jobs are going to non-qualified organisations, and Union officials are eager to discuss the allegations with Tube bosses.

Tom Hardacre, Unite-Amicus national officer, said: “We’re hoping to meet with the Underground authorities to put in place an agreement to make sure bona fide companies and bona fide labour are used on any work connected to the Underground. Work is fragmented at the moment.”
