The newly launched UK Green Building Council has appointed Paul King as chief executive.

King was previously director of campaigns with conservation group WWF, where he headed its One Million Sustainable Homes campaign, which sought to move sustainability from the fringes to the mainstream of the UK housing sector.

UK GBC chairman, Peter Rogers, said: “Paul is absolutely the right person to drive the organisation forward. His experience in directing major campaigns, and involvement in the Sustainable Buildings Task Group, the BREEAM Sustainability Board and the Code of Sustainable Homes steering group, will bring invaluable expertise and leadership to the Council.”

The UK GBC was launched at the end of February and is an industry-led, independent, not-for-profit, membership-based organisation. It is in the process of drawing up a road map with clear targets on how to achieve a step change in sustainability across the entire built environment, including urban planning, carbon emissions, waste and water.
