QS firm manages to climb the ladder into top five thanks to Aurora project in Princess Street, Manchester, but client and PM rankings are showing little sign of change

While Davis Langdon has held its position at the top of this month’s rankings of quantity surveyors based on the value of work won, Tweeds has edged up the league. Tweeds moved to fourth place from eighth place last month with £327m of business, from 46 contracts, won in the 12 months to 1 December 2005.

Tweeds’ current projects include the £21m Aurora scheme in Princess Street, Manchester, a 7,280m² office project designed by Hodder Associates due for completion in April.

As a result of its workload, Tweeds has pushed Gardiner & Theobald down to fifth place from the fourth position last month, with £313m of work.

Gleeds and Turner & Townsend held on to their respective number two and three slots. Both remained significantly behind Davis Langdon, which won a massive £1.71bn in the past 12 months, compared to Gleeds’ £402m and T&T’s £357m.

In project management Gardiner &Theobald kept hold of its place at the top of the league with £580m of contracts won in the year to 1 December 2005. Davis Langdon was hot on its heels with £412m for the same period, followed by T&T with £380m.

One of G&T’s project management contracts includes the £17m Perth Concert Hall, Scotland, which was completed in September 2005 for client Perth & Kinross Leisure.
