Turner & Townsend appointed on £6.5m scheme

Consultant Turner & Townsend will provide project and cost management services for client University of Sheffield on the 6.5m redevelopment of the Victorian wing of the former Jessop Hospital.

The university acquired the former Jessop Maternity Hospital from the NHS in 2001. The Carey Jones designed scheme is the second phase of the development of the site that will see the creation of a modern teaching environment within a historical listed structure.

Carey Jones project director Martin Booker, said: “The sensitive redevelopment of this Grade II listed scheme presented Carey Jones with the opportunity to create contemporary accommodation for the university whilst maintaining and breathing new life into an important building to the heritage of Sheffield.”

Carey Jones Architects has secured both planning and listed building consents for the site. The design involves the refurbishment of the existing Grade-II listed building into teaching and practice accommodation for the School of Music.
