Contractor to build “flagship development” for the university
Contractor Wates has been awarded the contract to build the University of Birmingham’s £60m research centre.
The High Temperature Research Centre is being developed by the university in collaboration with Rolls Royce and will “create a step-change in research capability in casting in the UK” according to the tender documentation.
Phil Harrison, managing director of Wates Construction’s Midlands and North regions, said: “The new High Temperature Research Centre is set to become a flagship development for the University of Birmingham that will significantly contribute to fast and flexible design and manufacturing development on a national and global scale.
“Our appointment to deliver this world leading facility is testament to our reputation as a respected contractor and I am delighted that we have been entrusted with the task of bringing this exceptional development to life.”
