Aecom designs world’s first indoor sports arena to get a top green rating
Aecom has designed the world’s first indoor sports arena to achieve a platinum rating under the LEED green certification programme. The £430m Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, has won the highest score for a sports venue in the LEED programme - an equivalent system to BREEAM.
It puts the venue in the top 3% of all LEED-certified buildings. Home to NBA basketball team the Sacramento Kings, the stadium is 100% solar-powered. During construction, 99% of demolition materials were recycled, with 95% of construction waste diverted. Aecom’s role included architecture, engineering, environmental and landscape design, and sustainability consulting.
