Firm to deliver community campus in Aberdeenshire through hub North Scotland
Miller construction will start work this week on a £30m education campus project in Alford in north Scotland.
The firm has been appointed to build the Alford Community Campus, which will include both primary and secondary schools and facilities including a theatre, gym, sports hall, dance studio and all weather and grass playing fields outside.
A community swimming pool, community library and office accommodation for council staff will also be built on the site.
The project for Aberdeenshire council will see initial site preparation works will take place over the winter with building work starting in early 2014.
The firm won the job through the hub North Scotland public and private sector partnership.
Isobel Davidson, chair of the Aberdeenshire council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, said: “The new campus will provide an excellent, modern learning environment for pupils and the wider community, and it won’t be too long before people see the new facility taking shape.”
Angus Macfarlane, chief executive of hub North Scotland, said: “It’s an exciting time for hub North Scotland as this is our first school project to begin on site and is one of many projects that we hope to commence work on in the coming months.”
The project is due for completion in 2015.
