The first new-build phase of an £80m Tower Hamlets redevelopment project has been granted planning permission.

It will create 626 homes, 350 of which will be available for affordable rent and shared ownership. Part of the regeneration of Crossways Estate in East London, it will include the refurbishment of three 25-storey tower blocks and the remodelling of the estate. Architect PRP will proceed with the detailed design for the first 104 affordable homes, with the first tower block refurbishment due to start towards the end of 2005.
