Toni & Guy’s hair salons are renowned for their edgy yet minimalist take on interior design, and the company’s flagship opticians store in Liverpool clearly follows suit, thanks to Concord:marlin’s lighting solutions.

Toni & Guy has branched out with a little help from Concord:marlin. The well-known hairdressing chain plans to open a series of stylish opticians throughout 2007.

A flagship store in Liverpool is already up and running, forming part of the city’s Metquarter development. The outlet, which was designed by Straight Impact to project a sleek and highly modern feel, is located within a former post office building.

Lighting was designed and supplied by Concord:marlin. The company has lit a number of Toni & Guy hair salons in the past, and this was an important factor in its selection. The simple brief from chief designer Michael Fitzpatrick was to create a crisp, clean atmosphere for customers, while lighting the shop to an average of 750 lux.

To avoid interfering with the store’s clean lines, Concord:marlin located a series of recessed Lyteframe fittings down both sides of the central area. Each one has two 35 W CDM-T adjustable gimbals to illuminate the eyewear on walls either side. Cool white (colour 840) lamps were used to create a serene yet efficient mood. A series of 58 W T8 TXL Sylfast battens are concealed behind the wall displays to create an attractive ‘floating’ effect.

The firm’s Trio Pendant opal fittings were installed on either side of the main door to highlight the goods and create an attractive symmetrical entrance feature.
