It was good to read Gent’s article on voice evacuation (VE) systems in September’s EMC (Last Word, page 70).

However, readers should be aware that achieving good systems requires much more than boning up on the two standards quoted, one of which is out of date.

One needs more than an acoustic assessment to do a good job if VE systems are used for music or something more than speech, as they can still sound awful, while meeting the said criteria for evacuation announcements.

Do bear in mind that there are more standards to comply with than those mentioned – I can think of four more off the top of my head.
