Three housing and care private finance initiative deals, backed by £61m of government cash, have been signed this week.
But the announcement of the next round of PFI schemes to get government funding, which was expected to be made last month, has been delayed for a few weeks.

One of this week's deals, in Reading, is only the third of the government's pathfinder schemes for deals involving refurbishment of homes to be signed since they were unveiled in 1999.

It will refurbish 1370 homes in the north Whitley area of the town.

The others involve 250 new homes in Selby, Yorkshire, with £7m of government backing, and residential care facilities for the elderly in Hammersmith, west London. The latter comprises 140 nursing care beds and 32 sheltered housing places with £12m from the government.

n English Churches Housing Group has been shortlisted for a PFI deal to provide care homes for Birmingham council.
