Good news from UCAS, the organisation which manages university admissions: numbers of those starting undergraduate course for construction and built environment subjects was up in 2007.

While student numbers have risen across the board by 5.8% in 2007, compared to 2008, built environment courses have fared even better. Architecture is up 4.3%, civil engineering 10.3%, building 14.9% and planning 14.8%.

The total number of students starting on those four courses in 2007 is 11,909, about 4,000 less than enrolled on the most popular degree subject: law.
