ABB is ensuring fairground rides are as exciting as possible while still safe.
Its AC31 decentralised automation system is being used at the heart of many rides in the UK’s theme parks and fairgrounds.
To produce stomach-churning effects, an advanced system is needed to control the combination of actuators and motors that drive them. The AC31 removes the need for a centralised system. It uses various master central units interconnected with remote units linked to sensors and actuators with twisted pair cables. This ensures a backup protection against failure from cable damage. The time and cost to install a new ride are lowered as the number of connections between master and remote units are less.
Rochester-based control system and distribution switchgear firm Bryant Electrical opted for the system.
