Dual technology detectors continue to proliferate. Here we profile some of the recent products available on the market ...
Xeridyne for Cooper
Cooper Security has acquired the assets and Intellectual Property of Xeridyne Security Products. This means that it will sell Xeridyne's range of professional movement detectors. These feature digital signal processing, including Xeridyne's Spurious Event Rejection Algorithm and X-Engine digital detection optimising software on the QTEC Dual Technology Range, which increases detection sensitivity while eliminating interference from sources such as fluorescent lighting.

Gaining wisdom
Rokonet's iWise Green Line DT AM series detectors comply with all relevant European and UK standards: EN 50131-1 Grade 3, PD6662 Grade 3, TS50131-2-4 Grade 3, Environmental Class 2. The iWise Green Line DT AM detectors have Active IR anti-masking and include Rokonet's patented Anti-Cloak Technology for superior detection and false alarm immunity. The new series will be sold worldwide by Rokonet's extensive network of distributors and partners.
The Green Line is a new concept in detectors that follows environmentally friendly guidelines by avoiding surplus radiation emission. In the Green Line detectors, the active MW channel can be disabled when the alarm system is in "unset" mode, thus eliminating surplus MW radiation while occupants are in the premises. Rokonet has decided to implement this new "Green Line" concept in the iWise Green Line DT AM series, which is available in two models, with 15m and 25m coverage respectively.

White light filter
The Scantronic 460 Twintec indoor detector from Cooper Security combines state-of the-art microwave and PIR technologies in a single unit. These combined technologies are used when the environment of the installation to be protected is very turbulent. The 460 is suitable for home, office or light commercial buildings. Designed to fit with any décor, it is stylish, compact, robust and discreet.
Cooper says: "The 460 uses modern techniques which eliminate the many types of interference that affect reliability of traditional detectors to guarantee superior long-term performance and dramatically reduce false alarms."
It has a coverage pattern of 12m by 90 degrees that can be adjusted to suit installation requirements. Temperature compensation and an advanced white light filter are built in to minimise false alarms.
Fully sealed optics provide full protection against draught, dust and insect ingress.

Expanded range
The V40 range of movement detectors from Gardtec has been expanded to incorporate Dual Technology and Pet Immune versions. These new models provide exceptional catch performance whilst ensuring the highest levels of false alarm immunity.
The V40DT Dual Technology detector has coverage of 8m x 8m and combines Passive Infrared and Microwave detection. Designed for use in residential and commercial environments an alarm is generated only when both technologies detect an intrusion.
The V40QDT Dual Technology Detector combining Quad Passive Infrared and Microwave detection is the most advanced model in the range providing the highest levels of catch performance and false alarm immunity in harsher residential and commercial environments. With 12m x 12m coverage this unit is the ideal solution for those more difficult installations.
The V40DTPI Dual Technology detector is a Pet Immune version incorporating full pet immunity to 75lbs (33kgs). This sophisticated detector provides 12m x 12m coverage and is the intelligent choice for all your residential installation with pets, the company says.

Next: dual pet technology
The Next Duo K9-85 is a Pet-Tolerant dual technology digital detector designed to provide effective security and ultimate false alarm immunity in areas where pets or other animals may be present (dogs, cats, rats, etc).
Next Duo K9-85 combines in a single unit two complementary technologies - a pet-immune passive infrared (PIR) sensor and an active Microwave sensor. Thanks to this unique integration, Next Duo K9-85 distinguishes between the motion of a human body and any other disturbance, including animals weighing up to 38kg (85lb), better than any other detector. Next Duo K9-85 implements a new generation of patented technologies including "True Motion Recognition" (TMR) using unique Fuzzy Logic pet identification algorithm and state-of-the-art 3D "Target Specific Imaging" (TSI) cylindrical optics. The result is the industry's best detection accuracy, false alarm immunity and ultimate long-term reliability - in an elegant device that is easily installed in any home or office.

Bad guys warned to WatchOut
Rokonet says its WatchOut outdoor detector series is the first of its kind to include four detection channels – two microwave and two PIR channels, which it says "effectively solves the pressing issue of high false alarm rates from outdoor volumetric detectors".
WatchOut exercises Selective Event Recognition to distinguish between false alarms and real intrusion events. The Selective Event Recognition is enabled by the two new Rokonet technologies.
Digital Correlation Technology compares between the signals of two PIR channels with separate optics to ensure that only targets creating a similar and correlated signal in both PIR channels trigger an alarm, thus eliminating false alarms from rapid temperature changes, wind gusts and pets up to 70cm in height.
Sway Recognition Technology uses two microwave channels for recognising and excluding swaying objects such as bushes or tree limbs.
WatchOut detectors include an optional camera and remote control, and diagnostic capabilities when installed with ProSYS Integrated Security Systems. The detector has a wide range of professional swivels and a MW "Anti-Collision" feature that enables adjacent detector installations.
Additional features include Active IR for Anti-Mask and "Dirty Lens" alerts, a protective hood and IP65 environmental rating.

Dual sensor
GE's new Dual Technology RCR-REX (Range Controlled Radar Request-to-Exit) sensor combines Doppler Range Controlled Radar motion sensing and Fresnel lens PIR technology, all in one unit for improved security.
The dual technology in GE's RCR-REX sensor triggers the door latch quickly, allowing easy egress while providing other benefits including limiting the number of people allowed in or out and the length of time the door can be opened. The RCR-REX contains a built-in sounder that results in a local warning that the door is not sealed if the door is left unlocked too long.
GE's new RCR-REX sensor mounts simply to the wall and provides a swing-open cover for easy access. It features two form C output relay contacts, independent adjustment for the PIR and RCR, including a mask for easy adjustment of the PIR field of view, user-programmable lock relay activation times with easy-to-change DIP switch settings, LED indicator and a tamper switch.
