Irish transport contract win boosts global growth as partners prepare to move overseas

Turner & Townsend has won the programme manager role on the construction of a second terminal for Dublin Airport. Davis Langdon has been appointed by client Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) as QS.

The project is worth between €170m (£116m) and €200m with construction set to last five years.

The planned structure will occupy 538,000 ft2 and be located to the south of the existing terminal. The Irish government gave the go-ahead for the terminal in May 2005. The project forms part of the DAA's €1.2bn, 10-year redevelopment of the airport.

T&T's global expansion is continuing elsewhere, with the firm opening a 10-person office in Moscow in late 2005. Two T&T partners from the London office are about to take up positions abroad. Martin Sudweeks, a commercial cost management expert, is to move

to the US to head up the business, where T&T employs 75 people. Martin Berry, current head of transport in London, is moving to Sydney to oversee project management in Australia.

Back in the UK, T&T has been appointed as QS on a £67m project for Brunel University. Under a three-year framework the firm will work on 1,400 new accommodation units for students.

The company is also on the £715m Edinburgh tram link scheme, the BAA framework, including T5, and the £300-400m project to rebuild St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London.

Chairman Tim Wray is expecting to announce profits of £12.5-13m on a turnover of £115-£120m for 2005, up from last year's £10.6m profit and £75m turnover. T&T employs 1,750 staff.

He told QS News his current focus was growing the business globally. International operations contribute 30% of turnover at present but Wray plans to increase this to 40% by rolling out the full range of services offered in the UK worldwide.
