Sheffield City Council’s recent investment in a state-of-the-art CCTV network to be transmitted over wireless broadband is fuelled by the desire to monitor the city’s main transport depot, previously a vandalism and crime ‘hot spot’.
The entire system has been designed and installed by Premlink. Five JVC v-network cameras – the VN-C30U model – are located in outdoor, weatherproofed dome housings. They offer standard PTZ features, controlled by VN-S200U multi-camera viewing software. Integrated into the network, digital images from the cameras are continuously fed back over a wireless broadband network to a base station at Sheffield City Council’s main Control Centre.
The seamless integration of each camera with the wireless system makes the entire set-up very cost-effective when compared with more traditional CCTV systems in terms of equipment, set-up and ongoing running costs.
