Cyril Sweett was the QS on this £261m PFI hospital in Romford. The 939-bed Queen’s Hospital was constructed by Bovis Lend Lease, which is also part of the Catalyst Healthcare consortium behind the scheme.

The consortium, which includes Bank of Scotland and Sodexho, will maintain the hospital for 36 years. Bovis said: “The 4,500-room hospital was completed on time and on cost, even though a further 76 beds were added 18 months into the 39-month construction programme.” The four-storey building was designed by Jonathan Bailey Associates and BDP. The facility opens in December. It will replace two of the trust’s existing hospitals, at Harold Wood and Oldchurch.
