Redland Housing Association has invited takeover bids from larger registered social landlords.

The Bristol-based RSL, which manages more than 1000 sheltered homes, hopes a larger organisation will help it get out of Housing Corporation supervision.

Redland was awarded red lights for governance and management under the corporation’s “traffic light” assessment last year and was put under supervision in September.

Colin Shaw, interim chief executive, said: “We would clearly benefit from the governance standards and training facilities of other associations.”

He listed Somer Housing Group, Knightstone, Sovereign and Silbury Group as possible suitors, but said he had not contacted any of them yet.

He said: “We want a partnership that works for all involved but there has to be a genuine partnership, not an arranged marriage.”

A statement from Redland said its staff supported the move.
