A slimmed down Strategic Forum for Construction aims for a greater sense of co-operation across the industry. Membership will now comprise six core bodies.

A rationalisation of the Strategic Forum for Construction sees it reduced to six core organisations that will broadly represent the spectrum of the industry and its clients.

Already brought into effect - from the start of 2006 - the membership of the Forum will now be: the Construction Clients Group (CCG); Construction Confederation (CC); Construction Industry Council (CIC); Construction Products Association (CPA); a joint group of the National Specialist Contractors' Council and the Specialist Engineering Contractors' Group; and a joint group of trade unions.

The Forum itself will be split into two distinct groups: an executive panel, which will comprise the six chief executives nominated by the member groups; and the Strategic Forum, which will comprise the chairmen and presidents of the six groups together with the CEOs.

The Strategic Forum will meet three times a year. Other relevant parties will be invited to attend, as will the DTI in the capacity of observer.

Outgoing chair Peter Rogers said: "The Strategic Forum has been very effective, particularly through its specialist sub-groups, and in driving forward the headline targets. But perhaps the most important issue for the industry continues to be its fragmented nature, and it is hoped that this new structure will engender greater co-operation and make the forum an exemplar in integration."

• The Forum has set up an Olympic Task Group designed to act as focal point for liaison between the industry, government and London 2012 Olympic authorities. The Forum will aim to ensure adoption of best practice on the project.
