The Strategic Forum for Construction, headed by Peter Rogers, has set six key targets for 2004. These objectives are based on the Accelerating Change report, published a year ago.
  • 50% of projects to be undertaken by integrated teams by 2007.
  • 50% of clients to embrace the Clients' Charter by 2007.
  • 300 000 qualified people to be recruited and trained by 2006.
  • 50% increase in applications to construction-related higher and further education courses by 2007.
  • A fully trained, qualified and competent workforce by 2007.
  • By the end of 2004, 500 projects to have used Design Quality Indicators (DQIs). By the end of 2007, 60% of publicly funded projects to use DQIs, and 20% of all projects over £1 million to use DQIs.

To achieve these headline targets, a number of drivers have been established, including the use of KPIs. The Construction Skills Certification Scheme is also seen as important in meeting the needs for a skilled and safe workforce.

The Strategic Forum will be working on communicating with the industry, updating its website and creating a newsletter to provide regular updates.

Peter Rogers says that the construction industry can improve: "Everyone can help by adopting the working methods and targets set by Accelerating Change and we must avoid the excuse that it is somebody else's responsibility to act."

Constructing Excellence will play a key role in helping the Forum meet these targets. Constructing Excellence will focus on promoting best practice knowledge, innovation, productivity and engagement.
