4:35PM £4.1m Essex project includes sports complex designed around listed oak tree

Consultancy Stace has completed work on a £4.1m project for Bancrofts School, Essex. Stace handled QSing and project management on the scheme to build a 1,500 sq m sports complex and a 2,300 sq m courtyard building. Nicholas Hare Architects and consulting engineers Crofton Design also worked on the three-year project.

Bancroft’s new sports building, which opened this week, features a games hall, changing facilities and storage areas. It is a wood framed structure and was designed to avoid disturbing a mature listed oak tree. The courtyard building was opened earlier this year. It houses teaching facilities, kitchen and dining areas and plant rooms on four levels with a central paved garden area. The contractor was Kilby & Gayford and the structural engineer was Alan Conisbee.
