LAFARGE
The V-Brace, a new acoustic bracket from Lafarge Plasterboard (pictured above) improves the sound performance of drywall partitions and ceilings. As well as increasing sound and vibration isolation between studs, the V-shaped bracket acts as a strengthening brace. Designed primarily for twin-frame metal studs in separating walls, the V-Brace is effective at absorbing sound in the 50-125Hz range.

BRITISH GYPSUM
British Gypsum has produced a 70mm and 146mm version of its Gypframe AcouStud for commercial residential buildings. The studs improve the acoustic performance of the range by up to 6dB, and can be a cheaper way to satisfy Part E compared with upgrading the board specification or adding more insulation quilt.

SOUNDSORBA
Acoustic panel maker Soundsorba has launched Foamsorba sound-absorbing tiles (pictured above). The lightweight fibre-free tiles are simply glued onto ceilings and high-level wall surfaces, avoiding the need for specialist contractors and minimising installation costs. Made of soft foam, the tiles can be easily cut with a knife and have Class 0 fire resistance.

Monoglass spray-on insulation is now available from Aardvark Transatlantic. The Canadian glass fibre product provides acoustic and thermal insulation and eliminates the dead air spaces where condensation forms.

TARMAC PRECAST
Tarmac Precast has launched lightweight concrete partitions that give Part E soundproofing. And if you can achieve a build rate of 50 sq m, you'll be putting up the 92mm-thick Speediwall panels faster than block walling or stud. The hollowcore, tongue-and-groove partitions can be finished with a skim of plaster.
